Vår forskningsprofil är translationell där vi använder både prekliniska och kliniska undersökningar för att öka vår förståelse för varför och hur njursvikt utvecklas och fortskrider, och hur vi kan bekämpa hjärt-kärlkomplikationer i den uremiska miljön. Vi fokuserar också på utbildningsverksamhet avsedd för magister- och doktorander, liksom för postdoktorer. Vår internationella grupp har expanderat och vi letar efter en person som kan hjälpa till med flera uppgifter relaterade till våra pågående experimentella projekt och utbildningsaktiviteter.

Din roll
Som forskningsassistent kommer du att arbeta nära med forskargruppsledaren och dina huvuduppgifter består bland annat av:

- Samordning av prekliniska forskningsprojekt
- Beredning av klinisk och experimentell datainsamling och organisation för vidare bedömning
- Sammanställning av data: dataanalys och visualisering av data, dokumentation av forskningsprocessen; rapportskrivning och presentation av resultaten. Synkronisering av materialinsamling på sjukhusenhet och hjälpa till att utföra specifika test i enlighet med teammedlemmarna
- Hjälp med utbildningsverksamheten, inklusive kontakter med kursdeltagare och arrangörer, befintliga doktorander i enheten, förberedelser av undervisningsmaterialet, förberedelse av webbaserade aktiviteter, inklusive seminarier och tidsklubbar, samt kommunikation med studenterna direkt för deras behovsbedömningar av det vetenskapliga innehållet för pågående kurser och andra aktiviteter.

Vem är du?
Vi söker dig som har en kandidatexamen i biomedicin. Du har erfarenhet av att arbeta inom området som är relevant för våra forskningsstudier inom njurmedicin, kardiovaskulär forskning och utbildning.

Du behöver även ha:

- erfarenhet och kunskap gällande kön- och genusperspektiv i forskning och utbildningssammanhang
- grundläggande kunskaper inom området (t.ex. medicinsk fysiologi och patofysiologi)
- experimentell expertis - specifik utbildning i laboratoriemiljö inom området njur- och kardiovaskulär medicin
- teoretisk kunskap för ex-vivo och in-vivo-tekniker för att bedöma vaskulär funktion och mätningar av biomarkörer
- erfarenhet av att skriva uppsatser och populärvetenskapliga rapporter
- utmärkt kommunikationsförmåga i engelska, både tal och skrift

Som person vill vi att du är mycket motiverad och organiserad med god samarbetsförmåga, som har lätt för att skapa kontakter och nätverk. Vi ser gärna att du är kvalitetsmedveten, bra på att lösa och svara på problem och har förståelse för vikten av mångfald för forskningen och utbildningsinnehållet.

Vi föredrar om du har kunskaper i svenska och förmåga att hantera IT-teknik för att förbereda webbaserad undervisning och andra relaterade aktiviteter. Andra kvalifikationer som är önskvärda: tidigare erfarenhet av att arbeta praktiskt med experimentella metoder (ELISA, IHC, IF, EndoPat), och tillhörande statistiska analyser relaterade till kardiorenal forskning, samt användning eller utveckling av digitala verktyg för datainsamling och kommunikation är en fördel för denna tjänst.

Department of Medicine, Huddinge
The Department of Medicine, Huddinge, conducts preclinical and clinical research in a variety of areas and undergraduate and graduate education.

The department is internationally oriented and consists of seven units with a total of nearly 60 research groups, including three research centres.

Division
The Division of Infectious Diseases conducts preclinical, translational, clinical and epidemiological research projects. Its laboratory is located within the newly build facilities at Alfred Nobels Allé 8 (ANA Futura Laboratory), Campus Flemingsberg, Karolinska Institutet. The announced position will be placed in Professor Anders Sönnerborgs research group, which has a focus on pathogenesis, antiretroviral treatment, including HIV drug resistance, and HIV epidemiology including the role of the microbiome in the pathogenesis. The group is working closely with research groups at the Division of Clinical Microbiology KI and beyond. The day-to-day activities are often integrated. The translational research is a strong component involving basic molecular, virological and immunological investigations with close ties to the HIV Unit at the Department of Infectious Diseases, Karolinska University Hospital. Prof Sönnerborg is involved in several international collaborations with focus on HIV, Covid-19 and microbiome. We publish 10-15 well cited (current h-index 60), articles per year in renowened journals. Sönnerborgs group consists presently of two senior researchers, three post-docs, one research assistant and one PhD-student. The bioinformatician will work in close collaboration with all members of respective team.

Duties
We are looking for one highly ambitious and experienced bioinformatician with solid knowledge in bioinformatics/computational biology to join our team. The position aim towards proteo-transcriptomics studies to execute novel bioinformatics and statistical methods and multiparametric proteotranscriptomics analysis to identify biomarkers, map intercellular pathways of in their relation to novel antiviral drugs, as well as the importance of the gut microbiota for viral persistence and pathogenesis, including both HIV and CoV-2 infections. An important line of research is bioinformatics with regard to HIV phylogenetics for analysis of different HIV-1 subtypes over the globe and novel drug resistance mutational patterns. The candidate should have a strong background in bioinformatics and experience of translational research. Knowledge about HIV and/or other viral infections is a great assess. Also experience on analysis of the microbiome is important.  

Mastery of the core concepts of Bioinformatics is expected. These include (a) advanced methods in computational biology towards the machine learning in medical science, (b) knowledge and awareness of the basic principles and concepts of biology, computer science and mathematics, (c) the design and implementation of relational databases, and (e) the construction of predictive mathematical models of biological systems. The person is expected to analysis large amount of omics data mainly transcriptomics and proteomics.  

Entry requirements
The candidate must have experience in the field of systembiology

Björkegren lab.

Focusing on cardiovascular diseases, the goal of the research of Dr. Björkegren is to use multi-modal big data analysis to create reliable network models of human biology and disease. Network models have enormous potential to improve our ability to predict disease risk, identify new therapeutic targets, and to monitor molecular effects of treatments. To achieve this goal, we have designed and generated a range of clinical datasets of cardiovascular disease that combine detailed clinical characteristics with imaging, genomics, proteomics, and other types of data. Dr. Björkegrens research has long focused on systems analyses to generate network models from large genomic datasets—both from CAD patients in the clinic and from cellular and mouse models of atherosclerosis progression and regression in the laboratory. Throughout the last decade, we have designed and led a range of clinical and mouse model studies to elucidate the inherit complexity of CAD. As one of the first clinical scientists to apply the emerging technologies of molecular profiling to large patient cohorts, we have revealed the role of functionally associated genes in several molecular networks that drive CAD. A common complex disease such as CAD cannot be understood nor cured by targeting isolated genes. Rather, the focus needs to be on molecular disease processes mirrored by regulatory-gene networks that capture the combined effects of many genetic and environmental risk factors. To this end, much of Dr. Björkegrens time has gone into gathering a truly unique biobank from CAD patients undergoing different forms of heart surgery. The Stockholm-Tartu Atherosclerosis Reverse Network Engineering Task (STARNET) is a joint study initiative between the cardiovascular chief surgeon at the Tartu University Hospital in Estonia, Dr. Arno Ruusalepp.. Using the STARNET bio-ban, we have generated RNA sequence data from up to nine CAD-relevant tissues isolated from over 500 hundred clinically well–characterized patients. This unprecedented dataset is the main resource for our current efforts to generate network models that predict the risk for and clinical outcomes of CAD. In addition to Karolinska, Dr Björkegren runs a lab. at the Mount Sinai Hospital, NY with world-leaading bioinforamtik competences.
